The heart of Axis Bank is a promise that the bank will patiently help you through your most complex, intimidating banking concerns. The kind of human connections that shaped the core of the brand became sparse, with interactions shifting to digital ecosystems.

Challenge

To bring the assurance of in-person interactions to digital banking.

Understanding the brand perception

A quick study with users helped us realise that Axis Bank is perceived as a very premium brand.

The human imagery in Axis Bank’s communications did not represent the average Indian.

IDEA

Building characters around the beautifully inspiring stories of common people :)

We got into the field and talked to people. From the barber who regularly cuts a friend’s hair to the rickshaw walas; From that person in the family we run to for advice, to famous, influential people we could get access to.

The stories we could collect were brilliant!

Iterations were then done on various combinations of attributes and narratives to think beyond internalised biases and default imageries.

With the stories coming to shape, we needed to give them faces! References were collected, mostly from real life, with keen attention to tiny details that bring familiarity and relatability

A little about Chacko

Chacko’s mornings always start with rubber tappings in the plantation. He likes to read his newspaper on his charukasera and listen to old hindi and malayalam songs while getting ready to leave with his rickshaw for the day. By night, he likes to help out with dinner, and lie down on the verandah looking up at the stars :) Oh also, Cricket is life for Chacko.
